Back It Up

What would you do if something happened to your computer? What if it were lost or stolen? What if it crashed or became infected by a virus? What if your computer just takes a dive off the table and is damaged? Have you protected important data stored on your computer?

I know I have a long way to go on this front. Thousands of pictures are not properly protected.

Files need to be backed up. It’s past time to plug in my cell phone and iPad to back up data, and I have a lot of work to do to back up all the files on my blog.

A goal for this summer: find a system that’s simple, effective and then schedule regular backups so I don’t lose important information. And then I need to replace some of the old technology used in the past. How long will I be able to access the pictures and music stored on CDs? Better to re-save in a newer format while you still have devices to access the information.

Flash drives. External hard drives. Cloud storage. All can be effective. Find what works for you. Do you know how to use it? Is it easy? Can you schedule automatic backups? If not, schedule time to take care of this important task on a regular basis.

Don’t push your luck. Back it up.

  1. Apple has the time machine program that will automatically backup your data to an external hard drive on a regular basis once you’ve set it up. That what we use.
