I’m sure many would question the wisdom of skipping a trip to Whistler while in British Columbia, but we feel that we made the best decision. What a beautiful drive and mountain!
While we fully intended to spend a day in Whistler to hike in the mountains, upon doing a little more research, we found Whistler to be more of a shopping Mecca than one catering to summer hiking.
Make no mistake, you can hike in Whistler, but only after paying the $50 fee to ride the chair lift to the trails, and then there was only one three mile trail we’d be able to walk. All others were ten miles or longer and were rated as strenuous.
Even Canadians suggested crossing the border for a quiet, relaxing day in nature whether on the slopes or trails.
The best things about the day at Mt. Baker: No shopping. No restaurants. No high prices. Just beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities to enjoy it.
A happy 4th of July from one of our country’s beautiful places.
